4 unconventional keys to success.
Lisa Berry

Whether you’re trying to lose weight, start a new business or you just want to feel better about your life, these four strategies –that are usually left off the “how to be more successful” list– will help you stay on track while feeling happier and more fulfilled.

1. Self love, aka –Be nice to yourself.

This is probably the most important factor in being successful, because the minute you start being cruel to yourself is the minute you start sabotaging yourself by forgetting  just how good you’re actually doing.   There’s going to be ups and downs, but the nicer you are to yourself the better you’ll be able to weather those storms.

2. Define what success feels like rather than what it looks like.

If you’re holding yourself to a standard of success that looks like having all the latest toys from apple or you’ve landed your dream job then you may be missing out on a lot of the fun you could be having along the way.  When you choose to let success be something you’re feeling, then you’ve tapped into the power within yourself that no one can touch or take away.  For example, if losing weigh is your goal, because you think it will make you feel confident and you’d appreciate your body more, then by putting yourself in a confident frame of mind and appreciating your body now,  you’ll have access to new thoughts and actions you can take towards achieving those goals faster.  On the flip side, not appreciating your body and being insecure won’t give you access to those thoughts at all.

3. Organize your social media feed.

Full confession — Facebook is where I typically go first thing in the morning, so instead of letting whatever hit me, I’ve decided to take advantage of their “news feed preferences” and chose to have my favourite spiritual teachers and motivational quotes start my day.  So whatever your poison,  set it up to put you in the right frame of mind.

4. Meditate.

Now, that doesn’t mean you have to be all formal about it and sit in a dark room listening to buddhist mediation chimes, I merely mean find five minutes every day to be still and  breathe.

So whatever your goal, do it with love and when it comes to success and being “successful”, don’t forget to make up a few of your own rules along the way.

It’s a new year and a new you.
